I can hardly believe Thanksgiving is this week! And Thanksgiving in Midtown means the Wheeler Mission Drumstick Dash! This is the 15th Annual race, with 100% of proceeds going towards meals and care for the homeless in our community.
The Drumstick Dash is a 4.6 mile run/walk through Broad Ripple on closed streets. It starts in front of Broad Ripple High School, beginning at 9 am Thanksgiving morning. There is a short-cut route that is 2.75 miles if you’re not an over achiever. But if you make it the whole way, maybe that means an extra slice of pie after dinner! (what am I saying, I’m eating that extra slice regardless).
I’ve been a couple times (walked, and took the short route). There is such an energy and excitement in the crowd while you wait for the start of the race. There are tons of people, both competitive runners and families with strollers.
There is a pre and post run party in the Broad Ripple Station Parking lot. After the race you’ll be able to grab free snacks and drinks.
It’s a lot of fun, and definitely worth doing at least once! Take the whole family!
